Boat Lift Platforms

An ever-growing portion of our business is lift platforms. These platforms are a great way to launch and service smaller vessels such as kayaks, jet skis, and flats boats. Custom platforms can be designed and built for larger vessels such as offshore center consoles.

Each platform has an aluminum frame that is attached to the boatlift cradle. Plastic decking panels with a “grated” design are attached to the top of the aluminum frame. The platform is lifted in and out of the water by operating the boat lift controls.

When a lift platform is paired with the GEM remote system, it works exceptionally well for kayakers. A kayaker can lower their kayak with the remote control button into the water. When the kayaker returns at the end of their trip, they can kayak over top of the platform, hit the "up" button on the handheld remote control, and the kayak is lifted out of the water.

GEM Remote Controls

GEM remote controls are a wonderful device that can allow a boater to control the on/off operation of their boat lifts wirelessly. The remote control is an electric control that is wired into the lift operation system by a licensed electrician. It can be utilized by a wide variety of boatlifts such as the standard two- and four-motor lifts, single motor jet ski lifts, and a side-mount elevator lift.

At Honc Docks & Lifts, we usually recommend that a remote control with the auto stop feature be installed. This is a device that is preset by the electrician to control the upper and lower heights the lift cradle will stop at. Normally, the lift cradle is set to stop around three inches from the canal bottom on the lower limit and level with the dock framing at the upper limit. This allows the boater to simply drive the boat onto the boat lift, press the "up" button on the remote control and the lift will automatically turn on and raise the boat to the deck level and turn itself off. When the boater desires to leave their dock for a day of boating, the "down" button is pressed and the lift will turn on descend down until the boatlift cradle is within inches of the bottom of the canal and automatically turn itself off.

Another advantage of this auto stop feature is that it greatly reduces the chance that the cradle will run all the way down and hit the bottom of the canal, which causes the stainless boat lift cables to tangle. If a weather event requires the owner to raise the boat lift higher than normal, a very simple "override" switch allows the lift to be raised higher than the standard upper settings. Likewise, if a very low tide requires the cradle to descend further down into the canal, the override switch makes it possible.

Build Your Lift

Boat lifts live in a harsh environment. A boat lift has to sit out in the Florida sun for its entire life while bearing a heavy load. Then it is dunked in and out of saltwater and left to sit for long periods at a time! Special consideration must be taken in building a device that can handle this kind of perilous life. Your boat lift should be designed to withstand the worst-case scenario!

At Honc Docks & Lifts, we don't play sales games. We don't have gimmicks. We don't drastically change our designs every year, hoping that it works this time. We build a common-sense saltwater grade boat lift. We have been doing it for 25 years, and we will still be doing it for the next 25 years. We hope to earn your business with both our high-quality work and customer service.

A Step-by-Step Guide - Which Lift is Right for You?

Step 1 - What capacity lift do I need?
The first calculation is the total weight your boat lift needs to lift.

Step 2: Determine cradle width
How wide is the boat beam? Add 2’6” to boat beam for cradle width. If the lift is being placed on existing pilings which do not have 2’ 6” clearance, we can discuss custom options.

Step 3: Does my boat’s hull design need a custom bunk support?
  • Catamaran, step-hull, inboard, keeled need flat-bottom custom bunks
  • Traditional "V" hull does not
Step 4: Do I have any water depth issues?
You must add around one foot of depth to the draft of your boat to accommodate the boat lift cradle. Most canal systems experience two feet of tide change. If you determine that there are water depth issues, we will need to discuss a shallow water cradle system.

Step 5: Consider future boats
Are there any larger boats or boats with different hull designs that we should design this current lift to accommodate?

Step 6: Boat and contact information
Please fill out our online form to request a call back and we will contact you to discuss the specifics of your project. All information is strictly confidential.
